The Los Angeles Lakers got a huge win on Tuesday night against the Utah Jazz, but a collapse toward the end of the regulation sent the game to overtime.

That was far from ideal as they have to play the Los Angeles Clippers as part of the back-to-back on Wednesday. Despite it being a crucial game, Anthony Davis isn’t sure he’ll play that one, after logging big minutes against the Jazz.

“I haven’t played in a back-to-back in a long time,” Davis said. “Then, played like 42 minutes or something like that (in this game), probably the most I’ve played since I’ve been back. So, I mean, we’ll all get on a phone call or something tomorrow and go from there.”

(starts at 1:16 mark):

Davis has only played in one back-to-back all season, which was against the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Utah Jazz, back in November. The 42:05 minutes he played here were also his second-highest for the season, after an overtime game against the Boston Celtics in December.

The Lakers were up 121-111 with under three minutes left in the fourth quarter against the Jazz and they’ll be kicking themselves for allowing it to go to overtime. Thanks to that, Davis, who is averaging 26.5 PPG, 12.4 RPG, 2.6 APG, 1.0 SPG, and 2.0 BPG this season, could end up missing a game that might well decide if it’s the Lakers or Clippers who finish in the top six. Both teams are 41-38 on the season, with the Clippers holding the tiebreaker and if they win here, they are almost certain to finish above the Lakers.

Stephen A. Smith Says Anthony Davis Cannot Be Sitting Out At This Time Of The Season

The last time Davis sat out for a game was against the Houston Rockets in March as it was the second night of a back-to-back and the Lakers suffered a humiliating defeat in that one. Stephen A. Smith pointed to that loss and said Davis cannot be sitting out at this stage of the season.

Ultimately though, the Lakers’ medical staff will take the call on whether he’ll play or not. They have stopped him from playing in these back-to-backs for so long, but considering the importance of the game, they could perhaps make an exception in this instance.
