The Los Angeles Lakers couldn’t compete with the Houston Rockets on the second night of a back-to-back, losing the game 110-114 in a blow to their playoff hopes.

Anthony Davis was benched out of precaution, a decision that infuriated fans yesterday and has made everyone more upset after this loss.

A fan criticized the team’s arrogance, “Lakers have acted like an organization that has zero margin for error all season… That arrogance will show itself in the most ignorant ways. Tonight is the perfect example. Front Office. Coaching. Star players.”

Another fan criticized the decision-makers in LA, “You just honestly have to give the Lakers decision-makers credit for tonight. An absolute scheduled win that you botched because you decided to load manage the best player on the team during the must-win stretch of the year. This is truly an impressive unforced error by the Lakers.”

A fan said, “The sheer stupidity of this Lakers team is astonishing.”

An optimistic fan laid out how the team can still salvage their season, “The goal is to win 16 out of 24 games. They already won 8 in their last 12 games. They’re at the 10th seed right now with 12 games left, we gonna be alright.”

A fan joked about the Lakers once again failing to improve their record, “Lakers every time they’re about to reach .500.”

A fan said the Lakers’ coaching and medical staffs are the worst in the league, “Worst coaching staff in the NBA. Worst medical team in the NBA.”

Another fan bemoaned the benching of Davis, “Lakers couldn’t let AD play for at least 15-20 minutes? Like cmon, we are tryna make the playoffs man.”

The Lakers were led in scoring by Austin Reaves’ 24-point performance. D’Angelo Russell scored 18 while Malik Beasley and Dennis Schroder chipped in with 16.

The Rockets had every starter score double-digit points, with Kevin Porter Jr. leading the way with a game-high 27 points.

The Lakers Remain Below .500

With this loss, the Lakers are back to being 2 games under .500 with a record of 35 wins to 37 losses. With a big game against the Mavericks on Friday, the Lakers will hope that they can beat their closest rival in the standings to further cement their position as a play-in team.

One team between the Warriors and Clippers will take a loss tonight as well, keeping the Lakers’ 6th seed hopes still alive. They should’ve capitalized on having a tanking team like Houston as their opponent and played Davis on a minutes restriction to ensure the team can finally have a .500 record for the first time this season.

Darvin Ham could have done a better job tonight, but it’s time they look ahead to maximizing wins from their remaining games, especially with LeBron James still weeks away from returning.
