LeBron James has been watching his Lakers become one of the strongest teams in the NBA over the last couple of weeks while recovering from a foot injury he suffered last month.

With James’ re-evaluation date coming closer, the star is preparing to return to the court. Shams Charania has said LBJ is feeling better but is still weeks away from a return.

“I am told his right foot is feeling much better. He was shooting free throws on the court today for the first time since that injury happened. There’s no concrete timetable for his return. I am told he’s still a ways away and the Lakers are bracing as if he will need a significant chunk of the remainder of the regular season to ramp up for a return. There are one and a half weeks before he gets re-evaluated by the Lakers, and the likelihood is that he’s going to be out beyond that. There are 3 and a half weeks left in the regular season.”

He was seen practicing free throws in New Orleans prior to their ongoing game against the Pelicans. He wasn’t shown doing any movement on the court, so it’s likely that he isn’t as healthy as he may have indicated with a cryptic Instagram post recently.

Can The Lakers Make The Top-6 Without LeBron James?

At this point, it seems like the Lakers will most likely have a spot in the play-in tournament. However, their goal was always to be a top-6 team. Their impending win against the Pelicans tonight will set them with a record of 34-35, with 13 games remaining in the season.

If LeBron is to miss the next 10 days, he’s likely not going to play in 6 more games on the Lakers’ schedule. He should be targeting a return for the Lakers’ game against the Chicago Bulls on 29th March. This would allow James to play 7 of the final games to get back into a rhythm before the playoffs begin.

With their current pace, the Lakers should be a .500 team by the time James returns and be in the thick of the battle for the sixth seed.
