With the Los Angeles Lakers clinging onto a 102-101 lead in the closing stages of Game 4 against the Golden State Warriors, they were in desperate need of stops, and Anthony Davis was the man to get the job done.

Davis played some outstanding defense on Stephen Curry and forced two missed shots. It helped the Lakers eventually get a 104-101 win and Davis said after the game he took it personally that the Warriors targeted him.

“I pride myself on defense,” Davis said. “They wanted obviously to switch with me and I took that personal. I know where he gets to, like his step back three and I just wanted to move my puppies… I just wanted to move them puppies and keep them in front and make him take a tough shot and that’s what I did.”

(starts at 1:34 mark):

Curry has routinely made big men look foolish when they try to guard him on the perimeter, but Davis managed to stay with him. No shot is impossible for Steph, but AD made it just about as difficult as it could be.

LeBron James said after the game that Davis is the best defender in the NBA and he has certainly played like it in this postseason. To go with his 21.4 PPG, 14.0 RPG, and 2.6 APG, Davis is also averaging 1.5 SPG and a ridiculous 3.7 BPG in these 2023 playoffs. He surprisingly didn’t have a block in this game but finished with 23 points, 15 rebounds, 2 assists, and 3 steals.

Anthony Davis Finally Strung Together Two Good Games In A Row

Game 4 marked the first time in this postseason that AD registered back-to-back 20-point games. He has had wild fluctuations from looking like the best player on the court in one game to being quite mediocre in the next. Fortunately for the Lakers, he played well in both Games 3 and 4 to ensure they went up 3-1.

Davis isn’t taking it easy now either, as he was keen to remind everyone that the Warriors have overturned a 3-1 deficit in the past. They did it against the Oklahoma City Thunder in 2016 but it is hard to see this iteration of the Warriors pulling that off.
