Being drafted into the NBA is a huge moment for the players that get selected, so the vibe around the league is very wholesome and grateful during that time. But that can change in mere hours.
Amen and Ausar Thompson are twins, and both were drafted in the Top 5 with Amen going to Houston and Ausar being picked by the Pistons. And they are already slated to go up against one another, with the Rockets and Detroit closing in July in the Summer League. Talking about that, Ausar wasted no time trash-talking his brother.
“I heard it, my first thought was, ‘We’re going to kill ’em,'” Ausar said. “He’s sat right here, so he can hear it himself. I know he probably wants to do the same thing, but it’s not going to go that way.”
We'll have a Thompson Twin showdown in summer league when the Pistons face the Rockets.
Ausar (No. 5) talked trash. "We're gonna kill 'em." Monty Williams laughed & said "I love that."

These are bold words, especially coming right out of the draft night, but it shows that Ausar Thompson is not afraid to take on everyone in the NBA when the time comes. He averaged 16.1 points, 7.1 rebounds, and 6.1 assists per game in the Overtime Elite League last year and he seems like he means business.
Talking trash in the NBA will help earn notoriety for any player, but now everyone will be watching to see if he can back it up. Surely, his brother Amen will want to prove him wrong as well. While the stakes in Summer League aren’t very high usually, this year’s draft class promises to make it quite thrilling.
Amen And Ausar Thompson Made NBA History After Being Drafted
Most players have to wait a while before they can say they made NBA history, but the Thompson twins did it simply by getting drafted. Amen was chosen 4th overall and Amen was picked 5th overall, making them the first pair of brothers ever to be drafted in the Top 5 of the same NBA draft.
This is a proud moment for them and their family, but as Ausar seems to know, this is just the beginning. There is pressure on them to perform, especially having taken the unconventional route of the Overtime Elite League to get to the NBA instead of the regular college route. Hopefully, both can blossom into excellent players in the NBA that have long careers.
