  • Optimism is growing that Ben Simmons can return to Philly form
  • Simmons is reportedly the healthiest he’s been in years
  • Nets still believe Simmons can become an All-Star again

With just 42 games played over the last two seasons combined, it’s been a rough stretch for Ben Simmons, a 3x All-Star and former All-NBA level player.

At one point, the guy was considered one of the best young players in basketball with the 76ers but he has struggled to return to form since forcing his way out of Philadelphia.

At this point, all hope of an All-Star comeback has been lost amongst the fans, but there’s still some cautious optimism internally that Ben might just re-discover his peak form.

“I talked to somebody close to [Ben Simmons],” wrote Marc Spears. “They would say, ‘I would say he’s in the final stage of prep for the season and he has passed every benchmark and is as healthy as he has ever been since his last year in Philly.'”

Of course, health was a major problem for Simmons last season, and it could be why his game looked so limited compared to what we’ve seen from him in the past.

Perhaps if he’s able to start the season fresh and fully healthy, it might put him in a position to finally play up to his standards.

Unfortunately for Ben, problems will persist for him unless he learns how to start hitting shots from the perimeter.

Will Ben Simmons Ever Develop A Jump Shot?

Until no. 10 can figure out how to shoot, he’ll never reach his full potential. The problem, is, he has practically no confidence from range, and there are no signs that his shot will ever improve.

“I sat there and just watched him and I’m looking at his form, looking at his feet and I’m like ‘what the hell is going on with you, why isn’t it translating to the game?’ There’s a certain type of player that just can’t shoot and it’s because of their speed,” said Gilbert Arenas on Simmons. “They’re too fast! It sounds like a weird thing but they’re too fast. If you go through recent history, Jason Kidd – super fast, couldn’t shoot, you’ve got your Westbrooks, you know.”

We’ve heard this tune from Ben’s camp before, so fans are naturally skeptical that anything will change. Because when it comes to Simmons, we really have to see it to believe it.
