Ben Simmons was in the running to be one of the faces of the NBA, with people genuinely wondering if the Philadelphia 76ers would trade Joel Embiid away to give Ben the keys of the team.

Everything went wrong in 2021 and Simmons has now spent 2 seasons barely playing basketball due to mental and physical issues. The 25-year-old is looking to rediscover his All-Star form for the Brooklyn Nets next season.

“The group around Ben has noticed a complete change in Ben’s focus and mentality [through] this rehab and how he has attacked it and engaged with everything and there is a lot of belief in him being able to return to his All-Star form.” (h/t New York Post)

Simmons averaged 6.9 points, 6.3 rebounds and 6.1 assists in 42 games this season. He has been called out by his coaches and is now looking like one of the worst trade assets in the NBA right now. If he doesn’t bounce back, his career may be circling the drain.

Can Ben Simmons Return To Being One Of The Best?

Just two seasons ago, Simmons narrowly lost Defensive Player of the Year to Rudy Gobert, something people thought was the first finalist appearance for a player who’d be a perennial DPOY candidate. Even if Ben couldn’t score, everyone knew he could defend the ball. We haven’t seen that side of him either this season.

Ben Simmons is going to struggle with reintroducing himself into the lineup, especially on a team where there are plenty of elite defenders. Simmons still can’t score or shoot while the others can, so he will be fighting for minutes tooth-and-nail. If he can extinguish the demons that keep holding him back, next season may just be the rebirth of the Australian point guard.
