Bill Simmons perhaps had the most accurate comparison for Jimmy Butler and the Miami Heat as the regular season comes to an end.

The Heat may not have been the elite unit they were last season, but Simmons wasn’t discounting them. “There’s Jimmy and Spo and Bam and Riley lurking every April like Michael F***ing Myers,” he said. “You know how the movie ends, and you’ll probably survive, but you’ll also probably be standing in your burning house covered in blood. Any Butler team scares the s**t out of me.”

Miami is one of the teams expected to make the postseason, and their current sixth-place seed is enough to get them a berth. Much of their hopes rest on Butler, who has been a constant force for the side. Those who remember him in the NBA Finals in 2020 will remember his dogged determination that saw the Heat trade blows with LA before eventually being pipped.

The proof is in the pudding. Butler averaged 26.2 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 9.8 assists in the finals, and two seasons later, he notched 25.6 points and 7.0 rebounds in the Eastern Conference finals against Boston.

Makes sense why Simmons would make a ghoulish comparison. The Heat can’t be counted to cool off, not with Butler in the mix with the right set of pieces around him.

Jimmy Butler’s ‘Real Basketball’ Comes After The All-Star Break

One of the more reliable and seasoned playoff players in the league, Jimmy Butler, had a rather startling reply to when he would play real basketball.

“They been asking, ‘When am I gonna start playing for real?’ This when I start, after All-Star break, man.” And for those unaware of Butler’s skills, the forward has a switch that he can flip and elevate his game to another level — something he has done time and again for the Heat.

Overall, Butler has averaged 22.9 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 5.1 assists this year, and post the glitzy All-Star weekend, he’s putting up 26.3 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 5.3 assists.

The Heat is a formidable unit as long as they have Butler, and while they may not be in the race for a top 4 seed, that doesn’t mean they can vault over in the postseason. Only time will tell if he can take the team to a title this season.
