Jaylen Brown and Kevin Durant’s paths were mentioned in the same breath a lot of times last year. These two were rumored to be exchangeable trade pieces when KD shockingly requested a trade from the Brooklyn Nets after another disappointing NBA season.

During those days, the Boston Celtics were considered frontrunners to get his services, and Jaylen Brown appeared to be on his way to Brooklyn. The player showed his unhappiness with that situation, but in the end, the Celtics didn’t ship him away, as it was never part of their plans.

Brown made it clear he wanted to stay on the Celtics, the team he considers home, but with all the rumors coming and going, it was easy to get confused about his future with the franchise.

Jaylen Brown Wasn’t Going Anywhere, Not Even For Kevin Durant

This situation was so intense that it took the highest person in the organization to put water into any fire we could see. The very Boston Celtics owner assured Jaylen that he wouldn’t go anywhere and would stay with the team for as long as possible.

During an appearance on the Greg Hill Show, Wyc Grousbeck talked about the current relationship between Jaylen and the Celtics, making it clear that his spot on the team was never in jeopardy.

“We don’t talk about private stuff on the air about contracts or anything like that,” Grousbeck said. “What happens in the league is agents or other teams — I mean, Brad [Stevens] is on the phone with every team, definitely every week during the season. Just saying, ‘Who do you like? Who is playing well? Who do you like on our roster?’ He files it away in his mental database. That’s just that. They talk all the time about everything, it doesn’t mean a trade is proposed. Jaylen is not going anywhere. He knew that before the trade deadline because I told him personally.”

This is great to hear, as many rumors suggested Brown was really out of the Celtics. Jaylen has finally clicked with Jayson Tatum, and their partnership paid off last season, taking the Greens to the NBA Finals for the first time in 12 years. Unfortunately, they couldn’t win, but the Celtics showed that they’re capable of fighting for the championship.

This season, they are playing at a great level, too, posting the best record in the league (42-17), with Jaylen and Tatum showing the way. They could win it all this season, and Brown will play a big role in that.
