Ja Morant is on his way to making a return to the court after a tough few weeks surrounded by controversy.

Morant was suspended for 8 games for showing a gun on Instagram live, which has led to a media circus around the 22-year-old. Brandon Jennings has dissected it down to people being jealous of Morant.

“Jealousy, I think it’s jealousy. He is young, he is black, he is making a lot of money, and everybody likes him. I think it’s just jealousy, too. They’re always trying to find something. so they’re just going to nitpick now. They’re going to keep trying to find different things.”

Morant has most definitely achieved a lot more before the age of 22 than most of his detractors have. A lot of criticism was valid but it has been in extremely public forums, like athletes tweeting or even the Daily Show poking fun at the situation.

Ja was in the wrong and unquestionably made a series of bad judgment calls, but there are athletes that have been treated with far more leniency for way worse issues.

Ja Morant Is Making A Much-Awaited Comeback

Morant is expected to return for the Grizzlies’ matchup against the Dallas Mavericks next week. The Grizzlies are mostly set in the playoff race, so the final stretch of games will be crucial for them to rediscover the chemistry that might have been broken up with this unforeseen suspension.

Ja has to make an impression to see if he can still make it to an All-NBA team, as his contract value may fall by almost $40 million if he fails to do so. He was definitely on track to being one of the 6 guards named on that squad, so he’ll need to remind people with his play why he was deserving of that honor.
