  • Buddy Hield and the Pacers are working on a trade for him
  • The Pacers did offer Hield an extension
  • Buddy Hield is one of the best 3PT shooters in the league

Shooting guard Buddy Hield is one of the best 3PT marksmen in the league, and his skill set is one of the most valuable in the modern game. He had a good season with the Indiana Pacers last year, but it seems as though he and the franchise might be parting ways soon.

A recent report from Shams Charania of The Athletic revealed that Buddy Hield and the Indiana Pacers are working together to find a suitable trade for the shooting guard. Though the Pacers did offer Hield an extension, the numbers clearly weren’t to the guard’s liking.

“After contract extension negotiations stalled out, Buddy Hield and the Indiana Pacers have started a dialogue to work on finding a potential trade with another team, league sources say.”

“Hield is open to a trade elsewhere, according to rival team sources, but no deal is imminent and there aren’t any current substantive talks with any other team. The Pacers did offer Hield an extension in recent weeks, but it’s believed their proposal did not make the seven-year guard feel desired, league sources said.”

It is clear that the best thing for both sides right now is to figure out a trade. The Indiana Pacers are clearly willing to take some input from Hield on where he gets moved, and trading him could get the franchise some value in return.

Last season, Buddy Hield averaged 16.8 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 2.8 assists per game, while shooting 42.5% from 3PT range. He can clearly be a great contributor to a contending team, and we’ll see where he ends up in the future.

Buddy Hield Is Extremely Durable

Besides his 3PT shooting, one of Buddy Hield’s best qualities is his durability. In fact, it is fair to say that Buddy Hield is the ultimate NBA ironman, he only missed 3 games during his 7-year career as of February 2023, and has only missed 3 more games since then.

“He missed 2 games in November 2017 because of an ankle injury, and he was sidelined for one game due to an illness on April 12, 2021.”

Durability is highly important for any player, and many people think that it is the best ability that a player can have. Ultimately, being able to consistently play games is important, and talent matters less when the player cannot play consistently.

If a team were to get Buddy Hield, they would be getting one of the best 3PT shooters in the league and a player they can consistently rely on. Even though he is on an expiring contract, Hield is still valuable and we’ll see what he commands in a trade.

Buddy Hield Has Frequently Been Linked With The Los Angeles Lakers

One of the teams that has consistently coveted Buddy Hield is the Los Angeles Lakers. Generally, elite 3PT shooters thrive next to LeBron James, and Hield would be a perfect fit for the Los Angeles Lakers. Hield was one of the players linked with the Lakers ahead of the 2023 draft night, and though a trade never materialized, there are still ways the Lakers could get Buddy Hield in the future.

It remains to be seen if the Los Angeles Lakers will join the Buddy Hield sweepstakes in the future. He could definitely take them to the next level as a franchise, and they have the assets to move for him.
