The Boston Celtics were eliminated from the 2023 NBA Playoffs in the Eastern Conference Finals by the Miami Heat. They put up a good fight and took the series to seven games, where the Heat finished the job to advance to the NBA Finals.

In the process, they went down to 0-3 against the Heat, which infuriated the team owner. He didn’t hesitate to call out his players and demand more from them, using some big words to get the best out of them.

“With the season on the line following a 128-102 Game 3 loss to the eighth-seed Heat, Grousbeck came in hot. After Grant Williams asked everyone to clear the room so the players could have some space, Grousbeck went off,” Jay King and Jared Weiss of The Athletic wrote.

“His message to the effect that he has been building this franchise for over 20 years and the players need to play with some balls left the locker room stunned.”

It’s unclear if their own pride or Grousbeck’s word played a role in the Celtics’ attempt to come back, but they showed a different face in the next three games. So much so that they forced Game 7, at home, where everybody thought the C’s would complete the job.

Unfortunately, they were swept off the floor by the Heat, losing their chance to return from an 0-3 deficit and make history in the NBA.

Boston Celtics Were Close To Returning From An 0-3 Disadvantage

Some say Jayson Tatum’s rolled ankle played a big part in this blowout loss, or the Heat came back to their best form after losing three consecutive games. Either way, there’s nothing the Celtics can do to change the outcome of the series.

Jaylen Brown couldn’t help his team either and was heavily criticized for his turnovers. The rest of the team couldn’t respond and the Heat got away with a big win at TD Garden, advancing to the championship series, where they’ll face the Denver Nuggets.
