The Boston Celtics pulled out an incredible victory against the Miami Heat, with Derrick White beating the buzzer on a putback to send the series to Game 7.

This is an unexpected development, considering that the Miami Heat had a 3-0 lead after the first three games of the series and looked set to finish it off at home. In making their comeback from 3-0 to 3-3, the Boston Celtics became just the 4th team in NBA history to do so.

Here’s a look at the four teams that have forced a Game 7 despite being down 3-0:

1. 1951 NBA Finals: Knicks forced Game 7 vs. Rochester Royals

2. 1994 Western Conference Semifinals: Nuggets forced Game 7 vs. Utah Jazz

3. 2003 Western Conference First Round: Blazers forced Game 7 vs. Dallas Mavericks

4. 2023 Western Conference Finals: Celtics forced Game 7 vs. Miami Heat

All three teams that forced a Game 7 after being down 3-0 lost, though. No team has ever completed the comeback to win a series after being down so big early. The Celtics have an advantage that none of their predecessors did, though. Thanks to being the higher seed in the matchup, Game 7 will be played in Boston, none of those other teams ever had home-court advantage going into the all-important Game 7.

Boston Celtics Would Be The First Team To Ever Overturn A 3-0 Deficit In The NBA

Even though it has never been done in the NBA, this has occurred in other major leagues. The Celtics can draw inspiration from the Boston Red Sox in the 2004 ALCS, they came back against the New York Yankees to win the series despite being down 3-0. But the city of Boston has been at the other end of this as well, the Boston Bruins blew a 3-0 lead against the Philadelphia Flyers in the NHL in 2010.

If the Celtics do complete this comeback, they will be the first team in NBA history to do so. They have all the momentum on their side and will be playing on their home floor. The Miami Heat will likely not go down without a fight, but whatever the situation may be, the Celtics will feel like they have what it takes to overcome it and book their ticket to the NBA Finals.
