Charles Barkley isn’t a fan of load management, like many other NBA legends, and the 1993 NBA MVP recently sent a big message to players who sit out matches.
During a recent conversation on ESPN’s First Take, the legendary power forward said:
“I don’t think fans get mad if you’re making $30, $40, $50 million and play basketball every night. But you can’t make $30, $40, $50 million, and then sit out games. I think it’s disrespectful to the game, I think it’s disrespectful to the fans.”

Barkley explained that in the next TV rights negotiations, the money for the league will increase, but people will need answers to know why it’ll be worth it to pay more if players can decide whether they play one night or not.
“Wait a minute, you gonna make $70M and you can’t play basketball 3 or 4 days a week?’… They fly private. They got the best medical stuff ever created… People working in the steel mill every day, I’m pretty sure they tired too, but they go to work every day.”
This is a big issue for the league, and they need to find a resolution before this gets worse, and fans actually start losing interest in going to the arenas to see their favorite players.
Michael Jordan Predicted Load Management Would Be A Problem In The NBA 20 Years Ago
Even though this has become an issue recently, some people saw it coming a long time ago, including the fiercest competitor in NBA history, Michael Jordan. The GOAT predicted that load management would be an issue for the league 20 years ago, and time proved him absolutely right.
MJ played many games injured and had a memorable performance in the NBA Finals while intoxicated, so you know it was really hard for him to sit out a game. This happened to Kobe Bryant too.
Many superstars have embraced load management, but it’s obvious that not everybody is happy with it, and they expect the league to act on it and fix the situation.
