Charles Barkley is one of the greatest players in NBA history, but there are quite a few things he isn’t too fond of in today’s league.

Having finished his television duties for the 2023 NBA playoffs, Barkley hopped over to NHL on TNT for the Stanley Cup Finals. There, he expressed his love for the NHL and seemingly took a shot at NBA players along the way.

“I love your guys’ sport, it is so awesome,” Barkley said. “I love the fact that you guys only care about winning the Stanley Cup, and that’s what all sports should be. I really wanted to win the NBA championship, but the hockey guys, they’re the best at it. ‘We just want to win the Stanley Cup, we don’t care about load management, we’re not trying to pack super teams,’ that’s why I love the sport so much.”

Barkley has expressed numerous times how much he is against load management, as he stated it is disrespectful to the game. Load management hasn’t really been a big issue for the NHL as it has with the NBA and it is not a surprise that Barkley likes that a lot.

The superteams are also something that he has never really liked and he called out the stars who want to team up with each other. Whether Sir Charles likes it or not, things are not going to change in the NBA.

Many Former Players Have Spoken Out Against Load Management

Barkley is far from being the only former player who doesn’t like load management. Ray Allen stated it isn’t good for the game and said players of his time took pride in playing all 82 games. Charles Oakley called today’s players soft for load managing and added that he felt sorry for the fans.

While some players certainly might be pushing for load management, in most cases, it looks like the team is the one behind it, so their anger is probably a bit misguided. Load management has its benefits, too, as Darvin Ham stated that it helped Anthony Davis play big minutes in the playoffs. It is certainly something you need to a certain extent, but there shouldn’t be a lot of it in the season.
