Charles Oakley Warns That The NBA Will Have Trouble Finding The Next Superstar: “After Steph Curry, LeBron James, Kevin Durant, And All Those Guys Leave…”

Charles Oakley says NBA will struggle to find the next LeBron.

With guys like Luka Doncic, Jayson Tatum, and Ja Morant, it’s safe to say the NBA is not short on young talent, and the game of basketball is in good hands when it comes to the overall star power across the league.

But when this generation’s greats (LeBron, Durant, Curry, and others) finally close their careers for good, who will be left to pick up the mantle? Speaking with Kevin Garnett on his podcast, NBA legend Charles Oakley revealed his concern that the league might have trouble finding the next great superstar.

“It’s a lot of hooting and hollering around three of four new guys coming, Ja Morant, Zion Williamson… the NBA is gonna be in their hands the next five years? After Curry, LeBron, KD all them guys leave, I think the NBA might have a little problem trying to find the next superstar. Especially when LeBron leaves, he’s an icon. What he brought for 20 years at a high level, speaking up, holding people accountable on the floor and off the court.”

Obviously, several players have emerged as serious candidates to become the “next LeBron,” and that includes several who are active right now. Unfortunately, aside from Giannis Antetokounmpo (who is already 28 years old), none of the up-and-coming young stars have proven themselves by winning in the postseason.

So, who will be the one to step up and dominate in the wake of LeBron and Steph? Some might point to Luka Doncic or a guy like Anthony Edwards, but it could be someone who isn’t even in the NBA right now.

Is Victor Wembanyama The Next Generational Superstar?

While he has yet to play a single minute of NBA action, Victor Wembanyama has taken the league by storm, and his unique game has made him the ultimate prospect. Not only does he have the talent, he also seems to have the right mentality to handle the pressure that comes with being the face of basketball.

“One, the most important thing, is to stay true to the game and the main point of anything, give to the game,” James told Mike Wilbon on advice he’d give to Wemby. “Work your butt off. Try to be better than you were yesterday every single day. Commit to the game. I believe, we always talk about the game gods. And if you disrespect the game gods, then karma is a mug.”

Whether Wembanyama lives up to the hype or not, the NBA needs to find their next league superstar, or fans might really start to notice the void left by LeBron and Curry.
