Draymond Green was ejected from Game 1 between the Golden State Warriors and Sacramento Kings. After Domantas Sabonis grabbed his leg following a play, he stepped down on the Kings’ big man and jumped off, resulting in a Flagrant 2 foul being assessed.

Draymond Green‘s actions drew a lot of reactions from NBA fans, many weren’t happy with the hard foul on Domantas Sabonis. And undoubtedly, his ejection affected the Golden State Warriors‘ losing the game. But one player that didn’t think Green was wrong is Damian Lillard, who tweeted about it.

“Take foul on Sabonis…” Damian Lillard wrote. “I didn’t think Dray tried to step down… That’s just how his balance ended up.”

Those defending Draymond Green said that he was trying to regain his balance after having his leg grabbed by Sabonis, much as Lillard also has. But the way he wound up and jumped off shows that he knew what he was doing. A picture from the play shows Draymond both winding up and looking down.

And even if the referees were so inclined to be lenient, Draymond Green’s reputation precedes him. In Game 1, he sat on Sabonis to stop him from getting back during a crucial play, and he has committed many hard fouls in his career. But there are still those that support him like Lillard, and the man himself doesn’t think he did anything wrong either.

Draymond Green Explained The Foul, Pointing Out That His Leg Got Grabbed

In the immediate aftermath of the foul, Draymond Green wasn’t apologetic, and he was riling up the Sacramento Kings fans in the arena. And after the game, he provided his explanation of how things went down

“My leg got grabbed. Second time in two nights. Referees just watch it. I gotta land my foot somewhere and I am not the most flexible person, so I can’t stretch it that far… I can only step so far with him pulling my leg away, it is what it is. The explanation was that I stomped too hard… I wasn’t surprised that he stayed down.”

Whatever he or anyone else believes, the NBA could end up suspending Draymond Green for his foul. Hopefully, things don’t go that far, because the Golden State Warriors need him for Game 3. Having lost two games in the series already, the Warriors have a tough hill to climb to get back into the series.
