Damian Lillard has had another rough season with the Portland Trail Blazers, with the team missing the playoffs decisively and in the lottery for another season.

With 2 wasted years for an aging Lillard in Portland, the star is unsettled about what is in the future of this team. Lillard has made it clear that more years of rebuilding and tanking are not for him.

“I don’t have much of an appetite for building with guys 2 and 3 years away and not really go after it.”

Damian Lillard is a fierce competitor and cannot accept such low standards from his team. He has said he will stay with the Blazers repeatedly, but we may be headed to a point where either the Blazers make the biggest trade acquisition of the summer to give Dame a co-star or trade their franchise point guard away after years of loyalty.

Is It Time For Damian Lillard To Move On?

Damian Lillard has had a fantastic individual season with the Blazers, averaging 32.2 points, 7.3 assists, and 4.8 rebounds this season and making a push for All-NBA even with his team being the 13th seed. The team has a genuine shot at pairing Dame with Victor Wembanyama. That may be the lifeline this franchise needs right now. 4 teams have better odds than the Blazers, but they’re still likely getting a good top-5 pick.

Unless it’s Wembanyama, the Blazers should do the right thing and trade Dame to a new team. They need to get out of Lillard’s massive contract before he ages more and the interest around him dies down in the league. They can recoup assets and build around Shaedon Sharpe, Anfernee Simons, and their 2023 lottery pick. Teams will line up for Dame after the season he’s had, so maybe it is time to free the man.
