Damian Lillard has been on the Portland Trail Blazers for the majority of his NBA career. Throughout that time, the franchise has made the playoffs and even reached the Western Conference Finals, but nothing more than that. There has been a lot of conversation about him potentially leaving the team. And based on recent comments, Dame might not be too happy about the team’s decision to shut him down.

“I wouldn’t say it’s my decision at all,” Lillard said on the Dan Patrick Show, as per NBC Sports. I think maybe the team protecting me from myself…

“Every time that I’ve had some type of injury like that kind of get irritated or aggravated or something like that, it’s come from just like a heavy load, and stress, and just, you know, going out there and trying to go above and beyond. So, you know, I would say just; there is something there, and also them just trying to protect me from myself as well.”

While it’s not like Damian Lillard has taken any shots at the Portland Trail Blazers, it does go to show that the team cares more about keeping him healthy than making the play-in. This might be because a potential summer trade, which has been discussed quite a bit recently, could be around the corner.

Damian Lillard Has Made It Clear That He Does Not Want To Stay For A Rebuild

Despite having one of the best players in the league, there’s no easy path for the Blazers to get better quickly this offseason. As such, a rebuild is genuinely an option for them, but it would mean letting go of Lillard. Dame has made it clear that he has no interest in staying through a rebuild

“That’s not what I’m interested in,” Lillard said. “That’s what the frustrating part of it is. Talking about what’s gonna happen next season. And us ‘building.’ That’s not what I’m here to do, especially at this stage of my career.”

There are those hoping for and manifesting a move away from the Trail Blazers for Lillard, although the man himself is happy to stay. It is unlikely he will leave on his own, it seems much more probable that the team will have to trade him for him to move on. The situation in Portland is far from a good one, and it will be interesting to see where Lillard starts next season.
