After 11 years with the Portland Trail Blazers, superstar guard Damian Lillard is no longer speaking openly about the organization or his relationship with those running it. As he actively tries to work his way out of the franchise, Lillard is sending a clear message to the NBA that his feelings about a change of scenery have not changed.

“I’m not gonna speak on the Blazers. It’s a lot of love and respect, but I won’t speak on the Blazers,” said Dame. While Dame also confirmed that he did make the trade request, he refused to comment any further on the details of his last communication with Portland.

“I just prefer not to speak on the Trail Blazers.”

Remember, Lillard and his camp have already been warned by the NBA this summer for public comments relating to the Blazers and the ongoing bid to get traded to the Miami Heat. According to the league office, Lillard overstepped his authority when he limited his list of preferred landing spots to only one team, leaving the Blazers with practically nothing to work with on the trade market.

After that moment, Lillard (understandably) stopped openly discussing his trade request and it’s probably why he continues to stay quiet on the ongoing situation.

But if you’re a Blazers fan, it’s just unfortunate that it’s come to this between Lillard and the franchise. After so many years of greatness in the city, this ending is not what anybody had in mind.

Lillard Trade Talks Are At A Stalemate

It’s now been over a month since Lillard’s initial trade request, but the two sides are no closer to a deal than they were when it started. As much as Dame and his agent are working to land him in South Beach, they don’t appear to have the assets on their own to strike a deal.

At this point, the only way to get Lillard will be to involve a third team in the deal to offer the Blazers the package of young players and picks that they really want.

Until then, however, expect the Blazers to sit and wait things out. Thanks to Dame’s lengthy contract, Portland doesn’t have any deadline to trade him and it could make things interesting as the new season draws closer.
