D’Angelo Russell isn’t thinking a lot about his future with the Los Angeles Lakers and had a rather calm response when asked about it.

Speaking to the media in the aftermath of the team’s 122-111 win over the Phoenix Suns, Russell said he was “at peace” when quizzed about the free agency and his tenure with LA. “I’m just at peace, to be honest. I’ve been at peace for a long time,” he told Helene Elliott of the Los Angeles Times.

The point guard’s response comes on the back of news that the Lakers were likely to retain his services rather than chase Kyrie Irving in the summer. Adding to this are speculations of the side planning to land Damian Lillard.

“I’m a free agent this summer,” Russell added. “I’ve been traded midseason, so to get comfortable somewhere it’s not easy for me,” he said. “So, until I am, I won’t be comfortable. I won’t feel like it’s home.”

It should be noted that in his stints with four teams in his NBA career, he has never played the entirety of a season for any of the franchises he suited up for. Hopefully, his impact performances will see LA mostly keep him in and offer him a solid deal.

D’Angelo Russell Has Been A Game Changer For The Lakers

Ever since his addition to the Lakers fold, D’Angelo Russell has been a force for the team averaging 18.6 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 6.4 assists in the 11 games he has played so far. The numbers would certainly look better had he not missed a few games to an ankle sprain.

The Lakers were in dire need of a sharpshooter and a player capable of shouldering the scoring load in the absence of LeBron James and Anthony Davis, and in Rusell, they found a guard who could match his pace, IQ, and skills with the two superstars.

It would be rather unfair if the team decides to let him go in the summer and look for a big name alongside James and Davis — a move they did try and saw backfire on them. But at this stage, they will be pleased with their acquisition, and it remains to be seen if he’s around next season.
