Guard James Harden has requested a trade from the Philadelphia 76ers, after opting into his $35.6 million player option. He is likely to command interest from several teams as he is still a star-level player who can be impactful in the right role.
Even though James Harden has already been linked with the Los Angeles Clippers, it seems as though there are still people who hope he will decide to stay with the 76ers. Adrian Wojnarowski revealed that Daryl Morey still hopes he can convince James Harden to stay with the 76ers.
“You have an organization that would still love to keep him in Philadelphia for the season. Daryl Morey, their president, he’s got a long history with James Harden… If there’s a way to convince him that they can still make this work together… You saw Daryl Morey a couple of years ago with Ben Simmons… he slow-played it. They were unsuccessful in getting Ben Simmons back into the fold, but they didn’t have the relationship with Ben Simmons that this group has, especially Morey has with Harden.”

It will be interesting to see whether Daryl Morey can convince James Harden to stay. As of right now, it seems like he will eventually be leaving the franchise, but things can change quickly in the league.
During the 2022-23 regular season, James Harden put up 21.0 PPG, 6.1 RPG, and 10.7 APG. The 76ers need him to stay to have the best chance of competing, and we’ll see what happens in the future.
James Harden Is Reportedly Angry At The 76ers And Daryl Morey Due To The Handling Of Free Agency
Though Daryl Morey’s intentions may be to convince James Harden to stay, that might be easier said than done. In fact, a previous report revealed that James Harden is unhappy with Daryl Morey and the 76ers over the handling of his free agency.
“They’re not attached at the hip anymore, James is very unhappy, he’s very displeased with the way this whole thing (free agency) was handled. He for sure thought that last summer when he gave $15 million back to help them get PJ Tucker and Danuel House, that that was going to come back his way this summer. As we got closer to free agency he was getting radio silence… He was getting nothing. Essentially he and his agent read the room… so he obviously tried to take control of the situation and opted in.”
We will see how this James Harden situation plays out going forwards. We have seen star requests drag out for quite some time before, and there is no guarantee that it will be resolved any time soon.
