Guard James Harden has opted into his $35.6 million player option with the Philadelphia 76ers in the 2023 free agency, with the intention of seeking a trade out of the franchise. It seems as though some recent reports revealed why Harden might want out.

NBA insider Sam Amick has recently reported that James Harden is unhappy with Daryl Morey and the Philadelphia 76ers, due to the fact that there was “radio silence” from the 76ers when it came to his free agency.

“They’re not attached at the hip anymore, James is very unhappy, he’s very displeased with the way this whole thing (free agency) was handled. He for sure thought that last summer when he gave $15 million back to help them get PJ Tucker and Danuel House, that that was going to come back his way this summer. As we got closer to free agency he was getting radio silence… He was getting nothing. Essentially he and his agent read the room… so he obviously tried to take control of the situation and opted in.”

There is no doubt that players have to look out for their own interests, and it is easy to see why James Harden opted into his contract. His preferred destination in the event of a trade is reportedly the Los Angeles Clippers, and we’ll see if he ends up there.

During the 2022-23 regular season, James Harden averaged 21.0 PPG, 6.1 RPG, and 10.7 APG for the Philadelphia 76ers. He could definitely change things as a third option on a contender, and hopefully, he does go to the Clippers.

The 76ers Have A High Asking Price For James Harden

There is no doubt that James Harden is still a star-level player, and thus, it makes sense for the Philadelphia 76ers to wait for the best offers to come for him. In fact, it was revealed that the team’s asking price for Harden is “extremely high”.

“Philly’s asking price for Harden is ‘extremely high’ and the 76ers are prepared to wait for the most advantageous deal to accommodate Harden’s trade request, reported Adrian Wojnarowski.”

Usually, stars end up on teams that they desire, so it is likely that we’ll see James Harden on the Clippers at some point or another. However, anything can happen in the league, and we’ll see what happens in the future.
