Stephen Curry is a unique superstar in the NBA, almost no other superstar plays the way he does. Others can be lethal from three-point range, but his insanely high motor and constant off-ball movement are unmatched. And that makes guarding him a tough assignment for anyone.

Nobody knows this better than Cleveland Cavaliers’ players from 2014 to 2018. They faced Stephen Curry in 4 Finals series in 4 years. So it’s no surprise that when De’Aaron Fox was asked about guarding him this year, he referred to something J. R. Smith had said.

“Y’all see that clip? Of J.R. Smith?” Fox asked in the press conference when questions about his defense. “Talking about Delly, y’all see that clip? That sh*t is real. It’s real. I didn’t guard Steph for the entire game but, yeah, that clip is real.”

In an appearance on JJ Redick’s Old Man And The Three podcast, J. R. Smith spoke about what it was like to watch Matthew Dellavedova try to defend Stephen Curry. His exact words were, “Delly almost died guarding Steph Curry,” Smith said. “No, literally, almost died. We have footage of this man in the ice tub, like literally to his neck trying to guard this man. By that, Dellavedova by far is one of the greatest people I like of all time. He literally gave everything he had, and there was no excuse.”

Stephen Curry is as unstoppable as they come, just keeping up with him is a difficult prospect for a lot of his opponents. And while the Sacramento Kings aren’t known for their defense, De’Aaron Fox did a great job on that front. Curry managed to get 30 points, including some big buckets in the 4th quarter, but he didn’t take over in the clutch as he could have.

The Sacramento Kings Need To Pull Out 3 More Wins To Win The Series

Everything the Sacramento Kings do now is uncharted territory for the modern version of the franchise. And having secured their first playoff win in 16 years, they will want to keep it rolling and wrap up the series.

The Warriors’ road record is pretty bad, so the Kings will want to take a 2-0 lead back to San Francisco with them. This will put them in a good position to win another 2 games and advance. Golden State will not be an easy opponent, this team hasn’t lost a series outside the NBA Finals since 2015, but the Kings have nothing to lose.
