Everyone in the NBA world has seen the intense back-and-forth between Dillon Brooks and Draymond Green. The two have some serious beef between them, but it wasn’t always like that.

An old video has gone viral on social media recently. Dillon Brooks is a little similar to Draymond Green in terms of defensive tenacity and being a pest, and it seems he once idolized his now nemesis.

When Dillon Brooks was in college at the University of Oregon, he was asked about his game in an interview. And his answer is wild considering how much he has bashed Draymond Green recently because he named the Warriors legend as an example of how he would like to be for his team.

“I never thought at the end of the year, sitting at coach’s house, telling him like I wanna be Draymond Green for this team,” Brooks said. “I would never think that I would be in this position and it’s great and I can’t take it for granted. My team knows that I know that, we gotta get it done.”

Dillon Brooks had the utmost respect for Draymond Green during his college years, especially considering that he told his coach that he wanted to be like him. On defense, he may not be as connected as Green, but he has the tenacity and intensity. Brooks is a better shooter than Draymond, but his leadership is nowhere near the same level. And considering everything he has said lately, he certainly wouldn’t repeat this sentiment today.

Dillon Brooks Took A Massive Shot At Draymond Green

The feud has escalated to epic proportions since, but it began with Dillon Brooks taking shots at Draymond Green. Green then went back at him and destroyed him with the things he said, but it was Brooks that had begun it all with what he said

“I don’t like Draymond at all,” he says. “I just don’t like Golden State. I don’t like anything to do with them. Draymond talks a lot. Gets away with a lot, too. His game is cool — with Golden State — but if you put him anywhere else, you’re not going to know who Draymond is. He plays with heart, plays hard, and knows the ins and outs of their defense. I guess that’s why they like him over there.”

Considering that he once wanted to be for his team what Draymond Green was for Golden State, these words from Brooks now sound a little salty and hollow. Draymond Green may not be the most likable, but he has been instrumental for the Warriors and helped them win championships. Dillon Brooks could do well to be less of a hater.
