The physicality of the modern-day NBA is already at an all-time low. Now, there are many who are advocating for the league to remove the charge rule following injuries to superstars like Giannis Antetokounmpo and Ja Morant.
But the Philadelphia 76ers head coach Doc Rivers is against this potential rule change. He explained the reasoning behind it in a press conference.
“No, not at all, unless they just want a 250-250 game,” Rivers said. “I think the only thing there is some of the charges people take can be viewed as reckless. And so they can review that. They can’t take it away, but they can call it what it is: It’s reckless. If it’s a reckless play, it should be a flagrant. But none of those, I think, were reckless. It’s just Ja Morant can jump over a human being, and he tried to do it. That’s part of it.”

Doc Rivers understands the concern of superstar players getting injured due to the charge rule, but taking it away is certainly not an option.
He believes the plays that injured Morant and Antetokounmpo should be put under review to label them as flagrant fouls.
Mark Cuban Asked The NBA To Change The Charge/Block Rule
If a rule puts NBA players’ health at risk, it should be removed or at least altered to ensure their safety.
Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban recently revealed that he urged the league to do just that, but his voice was never heard.
“Move the circle further away from the basket,” Cuban said. “Taking it an extra foot away from the hoop would reduce taking charges on drives dramatically. I’ve asked. Obviously, nothing has changed.”
Cuban expressed his disappointment with the NBA because no action has been taken. Keeping the recent Ja Morant and Giannis Antetokounmpo injuries, the NBA may finally change the charge/block rule.
