  • Kevon Looney has won three championships in eight seasons with the Warriors
  • Draymond Green agreed with a fan that Looney deserves to have his jersey retired
  • The Warriors have only retired seven jerseys in their history

When Draymond Green retires from the NBA, you can be certain that the Golden State Warriors will be retiring his jersey. Green has been an integral part of their dynastic run that has seen the franchise win four titles in the last nine seasons.

The likes of Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson would get that honor too, but Green believes Kevon Looney is deserving of it as well. When a fan claimed that retiring Looney’s jersey should be an easy decision, Green had a strong reaction.

“Only Facts”

Just because Nick Collison got it with the Oklahoma City Thunder doesn’t necessarily mean Looney should as well, but you could certainly make a case. The Warriors drafted Looney with the 30th pick of the 2015 NBA Draft and after a slow start, he has really found his groove now.

The 27-year-old played a significant role in the Warriors winning the title in 2022 and just had another fine playoff run last season, with averages of 6.5 points, 13.1 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 0.6 steals, and 0.4 blocks per game. It perhaps isn’t too surprising that Green made this comment on Looney, as Draymond once called him the most professional teammate he’s ever had.

The Jerseys Retired By The Warriors

The Warriors have only retired seven jerseys in their history. Those are Bill Russell (No. 6), Wilt Chamberlain (No. 13), Tom Meschery (No. 14), Al Attles (No. 16), Chris Mullin (No.17), Rick Barry (No. 24), and Nate Thurmond (No. 42). Russell’s was the latest, with his jersey being retired league-wide.

In a few years’ time, Curry, Green, Thompson, Kevin Durant, and Andre Iguodala should all join them. For Looney to join them someday, you’d think he’ll need to have a few more productive seasons, as he hasn’t quite done enough just yet. There’s no reason to believe, however, that he isn’t capable of doing that.
