Kyle Lowry may be a member of the Miami Heat now, but the most iconic moments of his career have come with the Toronto Raptors. Kyle Lowry became a 6-time All-Star with the franchise, and he was notably a crucial part of the Raptors winning the 2019 NBA championship.
While Kyle Lowry is now a distinguished All-Star and NBA Champion, that hasn’t always been the case. Kyle Lowry didn’t come in the league as a star: rather, he elevated himself through hard work and broke out later in his career. Former Raptors coach Dwane Casey has revealed how Kyle Lowry became a starter for the Toronto Raptors by winning the starting position from Jose Calderon.
"He's what you want your point guards to be about. He's a winner."

When he first came to Toronto, he was almost out of the league. We got him, Houston was trying to get rid of him. Memphis has gotten rid of him. And so Kyle came in, he was behind. I had him behind Jose Calderon. Poor Jose. He beat Jose everyday. He took the spot. And so everything Kyle Lowry has gotten, he has made it, he has earned. He is a scrapper. He is what you want your point guards to be about.
There is no doubt that there will always be a warm welcome for Lowry in Toronto, and he is one of the stars that were loyal to Toronto. Now though, Lowry will start a new chapter with the Miami Heat, and team up with Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo in order to win a championship. There is no question that Kyle Lowry’s leadership and attitude will help the Miami Heat. Kyle Lowry’s attitude is what allowed him to win the starting job in Toronto, and this story is just an example of the winning mentality he brings with him wherever he goes.
