In light of recent events, Dwight Howard was asked by DJ Akademiks whether he is actually gay, and the 37-year-old had no interest whatsoever in speaking on that subject.

“Is this what you want to talk about,” Howard replied when the question was asked. “… What I do in my personal life is nobody’s business.”

Of course, he is more than entitled to ask people to stop bothering him about his personal affairs. If he wants to keep certain aspects of his life private, then no one on the outside should really push him to speak about it.

You can understand why the question was asked now, though, as the eight-time All-Star has been making the headlines for all the wrong reasons. Earlier this year, Howard was sued for sexual assault by Stephen Harper, who stated the former NBA star had forced him into having a threesome.

Howard denied the allegation and claimed all actions were consensual. While there is no way to know at the moment whether it was consensual or not, the statement opened the door to questions regarding his sexuality. Whether that’s fair or not, it was the inevitable outcome.

Dwight Howard Previously Denied That He Is Gay

This actually isn’t the first time that Howard has found himself facing these questions. Back in 2018, a man named Masin Elije stated that he and Howard were in a relationship and tried to expose him for dating transgender people and men. Howard vehemently denied the claims back then.

“It ended up being a situation that was, it went viral,” Howard said. “People were talking about it, and it upset me because I didn’t even know who the person was. Why would somebody, who I’ve never met, never had any contact with, make up a whole story about me? I saw all the hate, the pure hate, from people that I’ve never met before, just pile up everywhere I went… I’m not gay.”

This is just a weird situation all around at this point. It really isn’t something that should be speculated about, but Elije’s claims and now this current situation will lead to people inevitably drawing certain conclusions.

Stephen A. Smith Feels Howard’s Sexual Assault Case Is The Reason He Remained Unsigned

Howard has long expressed a desire to return to the NBA but found opportunities hard to come by. Stephen A. Smith is speculating that teams didn’t sign Howard because of the sexual assault case.

“That’s why teams didn’t want you. Whether they would admit it or not, and I’m not going to mention teams because I don’t want to incriminate anybody or accuse anybody or something I simply don’t know, I’m guessing. But I’m saying is – that’s the first thought that came to my mind: that’s why they don’t want him.”

It would make sense for teams to stay away from Howard because of this case. We have seen time and time again in NBA history, that franchises will sign players who are facing serious allegations if they can still play at a high level, but Howard is no longer the player he once was.

As far as we know, the Golden State Warriors were the only team to meet with him. The Warriors ultimately decided against signing him, although that seems to have been more down to them not wanting to sign another big man. I think it’s safe to say with this recent case, however, that Howard’s NBA career is well and truly over.
