Dwyane Wade is beloved in Miami due to his status as a Heat legend. He has spent the majority of his career with the franchise and has won 3 championships with the team. There is no question that when one thinks of the Miami Heat, one immediately thinks of Dwyane Wade.

With that being said, it seems as though history could have turned out very differently. Dwyane Wade has recently revealed that he could have been drafted by the Orlando Magic franchise, claiming that Doc Rivers would have drafted him if the Miami Heat didn’t.

Something that a lot of people don’t know, I almost ended up getting drafted by Orlando. Doc Rivers was going to draft me if the Miami Heat didn’t… Ask Doc… The Heat and Orlando had a conversation: if the Heat don’t get their guy, they were going to trade the pick to Orlando. Doc Rivers wanted to take me at 5.

If Dwyane Wade did end up getting drafted by the Orlando Magic that year, he could have potentially teamed up with superstar Tracy McGrady. The two would certainly make a fearsome duo, and the offensive and scoring potential for that team would have been amazing. This is definitely a huge “what-if” for the Orlando Magic franchise, and there is no question that Dwyane Wade could have potentially helped Tracy McGrady win in Orlando, but all that is now in the past.

With that being said, there’s no guarantee that Dwyane Wade is the same player if he were to get drafted by the Orlando Magic. Circumstances play a huge role in success, and one change can alter someone’s career pathway. Things definitely worked out for Dwyane Wade in Miami. While there were times Dwyane Wade could have left the franchise, it is clear that Dwyane Wade ended up being the Miami Heat’s most iconic player.
