Mychelle Johnson, the mother of Miles Bridges’ children, now faces criminal misdemeanor charges for allegedly throwing water at the Suns player during a custody exchange.
According to TMZ, Johnson now claims that these charges are a frivolous attempt to get her arrested and have her children taken away from her. She filed her own response to the allegations in court, where she claimed that her actions (of throwing water) were a response to Miles Bridges trying to run her over with a golf cart in front of their kids.
Bridges initially filed the complaint in North Carolina after a June 22 custody exchange. He said that his former partner threw water at him and claimed she would do it again if they continued arguing. So he filed the criminal charges in pursuit of the safety of his children.
Now Johnson claims that these charges are only an attempt to harass her so that Bridges gets the custody of the kids. Bridges reportedly has four kids with Mychelle Johnson.
Just days after this custody exchange incident, the Hornets traded Miles Bridges to the Suns for a package centered around Grayson Allen and Royce O’Neale. But since the trade has not yet been made official, neither team has made a statement on this situation, and reportedly declined to comment.
It is also important to note that the trade hasn’t been made official yet for other unrelated reasons to this controversy. There is no reported expectation of any logistical hiccups in this move.
Earlier this year, the former Hornets forward was granted a temporary restraining order against his ex-wife after she apparently harassed him with a fake pregnancy scandal and started what Bridges described as a “deliberate campaign of terror” by cyberstalking him.
In 2023, Miles Bridges was given a 30-game suspension by the NBA for a domestic violence charge against Johnson. He was initially charged with three felonies in relation to the incident with Johnson.
Bridges pleaded no contest to a felony charge of injuring a child’s parent. He was sentenced to three years of probation and no jail time while the other two felony charges were dropped.
The former Hornets forward missed the entire 2022-23 season. The NBA deemed that 20 games of the suspension had already been served as a result of his involvement in the court proceedings.
So the pattern only suggests that the proceedings might get even more ugly from here. This shows that his relationship with his ex-wife is nearly hostile and sour, to say the least.
While Bridges is resilient enough not to let his personal life impact his professional commitment, it will be understandable if he takes some time away from the team to ensure the safety of his children.
