Jayson Tatum saved himself and the Boston Celtics from some horrific slander by clutching up in the fourth quarter against the Philadelphia 76ers.

Tatum was shooting 1/14 from the field with 3 points on the night heading into the fourth quarter. That will be forgotten, as he exploded for 16 in the 4th and helped the Celtics save their season by winning Game 6 on the road, causing fans to go crazy.

One fan thought the 76ers choked more than Tatum achieving something special.

Another fan was shocked that Tatum played as badly as he did but was still better than James Harden.

Tatum showed up when it mattered most.

One fan wasn’t letting Tatum off the hook, calling his fourth-quarter performance fraudulent.

Celtics fans were still overjoyed at what Tatum achieved late in the game.

Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey both scored 26 points apiece for the 76ers as they fell to a close loss. The 76ers stopped running through the hot hand of Maxey and had horrible late-game execution, which opened the door for Tatum to bring his team back into the game for the win. Game 7 will be in Boston, and the 76ers will be at a massive disadvantage.

Jayson Tatum Saves His Legacy

Game 6 wouldn’t have turned out well for Tatum in particular if the 76ers managed to close the win out. His performance through the first three quarters was putrid, and that’s the polite way of putting it. The Celtics have arguably the best rotation in the playoffs, and their performances kept Boston in the lead even when Tatum was shooting under 10% from the field.

His fourth-quarter outburst will be remembered for saving Boston’s season, but it’ll be foolish to say that it didn’t also save his perception amongst fans and media. If the man touts Kobe Bryant for every basketball-related thing in his life and completely sells an elimination game, fans won’t let him forget about it.

Tatum stepped up to the plate and hit the ball out of the park. Hopefully, he doesn’t start Game 7 like he did Game 6.
