Superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks were eliminated in the first round by the Miami Heat this season. This was clearly a poor season outcome for the franchise. Many thought they would compete for the championship, rather than sitting at home after the first round.

Following the team’s elimination, Giannis Antetokounmpo was asked whether he viewed this season as a failure. Antetokounmpo responded in a philosophical manner, noting that there’s no failure in sports. Recently, we saw Nike run a new ad featuring that quote from Antetokounmpo.

A lot of fans ended up roasting Giannis Antetokounmpo for this ad, with many of them believing that the Bucks’ season was in fact a failure. Some fans joked about Giannis Antetokounmpo’s PR team.

Some stated that this was a “loser mentality” from Antetokounmpoo.

Others believed that a No. 1 seed getting upset by the No. 8 seed is the definition of failure.

Though this season did not end as expected for the Milwaukee Bucks, they are going to learn from this defeat. Ultimately, failure leads to growth in all walks of life, and that is no different for basketball.

Giannis Antetokounmpo Is Unlikely To Re-Sign With Bucks After This Season

Though Giannis Antetokounmpo has historically been loyal to the Milwaukee Bucks, it seems as though he will hold off on his decision to recommit to the team. Previously, it was revealed that it is unlikely that Antetokounmpo will re-sign with the team this summer.

“They were facing a very difficult situation this summer, even if they’ve won the title. Because they have guys in their 30s who need to get paid, and they have Giannis, who’s in his 20s with a contract extension situation. I think it is unlikely that Giannis extends his contract this summer. He has two years left, with everything that’s going on with the team, and considering that there’s new ownership, that makes it very difficult. The Bucks are headed into the repeater tax. This is what happens to teams that are contenders year after year and they spent, so everything on this team is about to get more expensive. Plus, we have new rules coming in that is gonna limit the way they can improve this roster going forward. They are a late-stage contender with a superstar in his 20s, and there are teams in this league watching very closely to see what happens with the Bucks this summer, notwithstanding a decision potentially on Mike Budenholzer.”

There is no doubt that the Milwaukee Bucks will be an interesting team to watch this summer. There could be huge changes ahead for the franchise, and we’ll see what ends up happening in the future.
