It appears that the Los Angeles Lakers have already begun their preparations for the next season. The team will be working out five-year college veteran Jamarius Burton later this week.

NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski reported the development. “Jamarius Burton – who was an All-ACC 1st team guard for Pitt – will work out for the Lakers this week, a source told ESPN. The five-year collegiate vet, who also had stints at Wichita State and Texas Tech, has also worked out for the Bucks and Grizzlies,” he tweeted.

The shooting guard was most recently seen in action for the Pittsburgh Panthers in the 2022-23 college basketball season helping the team secure a spot in the NCAA tournament. In his second season with the team, he notched up 15.2 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 4.2 assists in 34 games as a starter.

That he’s been worked out by the Bucks and the Grizzlies shows that Burton has the necessary skill set to play in the NBA, and his addition to the Lakers would mean adding a guard with ample size and shooting ability. It remains to be seen what the final outcome would be.

It Will Be An Interesting Summer For The Lakers

With their season seeing them end as conference finalists, the Lakers will be proud of where they finished considering how they started. While their smart moves ahead of the trade deadline did help them massively, they will need to think long-term keeping LeBron James’ future with the team in mind.

In his five seasons with the Purple and Gold, James has won just one championship. While he has defied age and father time to show that he is more than capable of winning another title, he does need more of a rounded roster to help him and the team achieve the objective.

With all the buzz around Kyrie Irving, Chris Paul, and Damian Lillard doing the rounds, the Lakers have been linked to all three players making it interesting to see what their moves are in the offseason. Will they retain their team that gave a promising shot at the title? Or will they go for a win-now decision and blow up their roster? Only time will tell.
