Former Real Madrid coach Pablo Laso believes Luka Doncic picked the most ideal and sensible path to the NBA and that puts him at an advantage over Victor Wembanyama when it comes to dominating the league.

Speaking on the Italian show Area 52, Laso explained the difference between Doncic and Wembanyama’s paths to foray into the NBA. “Great talent needs time to develop,” he said speaking about Wembanyama.

“Luka did it very quickly, and I think Wembanyama will need more time to develop. Luka’s performing every night. I always knew Luka’s basketball potential is up here (his mind), and you can’t buy that. That’s why I respect his way so much.”

He had a crisp reply when asked about the best path to the NBA. “Luka’s way because he won the EuroLeague,” he said and recollected an incident when Doncic requested him to be moved to the men’s team. “It all comes down to one’s personality. Luka was a competitor since he arrived in Madrid at 13.”

And Laso’s words have proved true. Doncic has been on a tear this season and all the tests he aced at the EuroLeague make him a bonafide superstar in the NBA. Meanwhile, Wembanyama has been touted as the next big thing in the NBA with players — present and former lauding him as a generational superstar.

Jason Kidd Hyped Up Luka Doncic As The ‘Best Player In The World’ Earlier This Season

Ahead of the clash against the Los Angeles Lakers last month, Dallas Mavericks coach Jason Kidd hyped up his star player

Per Sports Illustrated’s Grant Afseth, Kidd explained how the Slovenian star had learned of Kyrie Irving’s style of play.

“His ability to catch and shoot or be able to re-drive it — he’s one of the best players in the world, so again, I think he’s doing a great job of the reads.” Doncic has been phenomenal this season averaging 33.4 points, 8.7 rebounds, and 8.1 assists, and has been in the MVP conversation already.

Much of the Mavericks’ title hopes hinge on how Doncic and Irving fare. The team is poised to make the postseason and it remains to be seen if they can make a deeper run in the playoffs.
