The Los Angeles Lakers have had an amazing free agency thus far, and they have managed to retain almost all of their key players, while also making some new additions.
One of the key players that the Los Angeles Lakers managed to sign is point guard Gabe Vincent. Though he is widely expected to be the backup behind D’Angelo Russell, a recent report from Jovan Buha of The Athletic revealed that he could earn the starting job if he outplays D’Angelo Russell in trading camp.
“The projected lineups are fluid. Russell is the early favorite to start at point guard, but Vincent could earn the spot if he outplays him in training camp, team sources told The Athletic.”
It remains to be seen if Gabe Vincent does end up outplaying D’Angelo Russell in the future. Though Russell is clearly a better offensive player, perhaps Vincent will end up standing out on the defensive end and making his mark that way.
During the playoffs for the Miami Heat, Gabe Vincent averaged 12.7 PPG, 1.4 RPG, and 3.5 APG while shooting 37.8% from the 3PT range on 6.1 attempts. He had a bit of a breakout in the playoffs, and we’ll see whether he can sustain that level of play on the Lakers.
The Lakers Are Winning Free Agency Right Now
There is no doubt that the Los Angeles Lakers are one of the winners of free agency thus far, as they have managed to surround LeBron James and Anthony Davis with a number of quality role players. In fact, many believe that the team is one of the winners in free agency.
“This means that Rob Pelinka is doing his thing right now,” Perkins said on ESPN. “The Lakers right now, I know it’s early, they are winning in this free agency. They are winning right now.”
Of course, we won’t fully know the impacts of all of these signings until the team actually steps on the court together. However, based on the individual talents among the players that were signed or retained, the Los Angeles Lakers should be among the best team in the Western Conference, and be competing for the championship.
