The Toronto Raptors made a big selection in the 2023 NBA Draft, going with Gradey Dick from Kansas University as the 13th overall draft pick.

The guard is an intriguing piece for the Raptors, who have decisions to make this summer regarding their veterans and young players. Dick has embraced his new team, and after the team selected him, he didn’t hesitate to share his excitement about meeting Raptors ambassador Drake.

“I’m looking forward to it. Gotta get out there, see Drake. I haven’t seen him a bunch, but I’m looking forward to that,” Dick told reporters.

When he was asked about his relationship with the global star, Dick didn’t hesitate to predict he will be close to the ‘Passionfruit’ singer.

“[Becoming boys with Drake], that’s the goal. I need him to wear my jersey. That’s how I know [I’ve made it]. That’s my priority.”

The Raptors are set to start a new era with Darko Rajakovic as the head coach. They’ll have a lot of work to do to relive old glories and win another NBA championship. Dick is one of the pieces for the future, and he’s already embracing everything about the Raptors.

Drake has close ties with the Raptors. He was named a global ambassador of the team in 2013, and the organization’s training center is called the OVO Athletic Centre, named after Drake’s label.

He’s an avid NBA fan, often making headlines for his moves related to the NBA. For instance, he bet on the Denver Nuggets to win the 2023 NBA championship.

Gradey Dick’s College Career

Dick only played one season for the Kansas Jayhawks, putting up good numbers in his lone season in college. He averaged 14.1 points and 5.1 rebounds while shooting 44.2% from the field, and 40.3% beyond the arc.

The Raptors got a good one in Dick. He’s ready to make an impact on the Canadian franchise and help this team compete in the future. Toronto will probably have a busy offseason to build the best team.

Some hard decisions will be made, but they’re confident that they can be contenders again soon.
