Kyrie Irving is officially a member of the Dallas Mavericks and had his first press conference for the team after the trade between the Mavs and the Brooklyn Nets was finalized.

Irving spoke on a number of things during the media interaction, including the possibility of him reuniting with LeBron James. However, the biggest statement came when he spoke about the Brooklyn Nets.

Irving openly spoke about feeling disrespected by the Nets’ front office featuring owner Joe Tsai and GM Sean Marks during his time with the franchise.

“Spending time away from the basketball court gave me time to really appreciate life in a new way, and I just know I need healthy boundaries, especially in this entertainment business. There’s a lot of disrespect that goes on with people’s families, with their names, and I’m just not worth it, so it’s nothing personal against any of those guys, against the front office.

“I just know I want to be places where I’m celebrated and not just tolerated or just kind of dealt with in a way that doesn’t make me feel respected. There were times throughout this process when I was in Brooklyn where I felt very disrespected and my talent… I work extremely hard at what I do.”

He also said he wish he knew who he was going to deal with when he joined the Nets, saying that he didn’t get transparency and honesty from the front office of the franchise.

Will Kyrie Irving Also Not Fit In With Dallas?

The Nets tried creating a superstar organization and gave their star a lot of influence, which ended up hurting the team. The Mavericks have never been an organization like that, with a hands-on front office and owner. Kyrie can’t get his way against Mark Cuban, Jason Kidd, Nico Harrison, and the franchise’s current star, Luka Doncic.

However, it seems the Mavs are willing to strike the perfect middle-ground. Jason Kidd is a point guard Irving grew up idolizing as a fan of the New Jersey Nets, while Nico Harrison was integral in Kyrie’s relationship with Nike. Irving also has to make it work to secure a long-term contract in the summer, so it is too soon to tell whether Irving will like being a Maverick. What we do know is that he has no other choice for the final 4 months of the season.
