“If You Want Stats, Look For LeBron, If You Want Rings, Look For Russell… If You Want All Of The Above In A Single Player, Then Look For Michael Jordan,” NBA Fan Ends The GOAT Debate

The GOAT debate dominates conversations around the NBA. Everyone has their pick for who is the greatest player in the league’s history, although the consensus still seems to suggest that it’s Michael Jordan.

LeBron James‘ GOAT case is gaining a lot of traction as his incredible career continues to flourish, while guys like Bill Russell, Wilt Chamberlain, and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar also have their supporters. But a fan used all of their strengths to give an emphatic answer to the debate.

“If you want stats, look for LeBron.
If you want rings, look for Russell.
If you want MVPs, look for Kareem.
If you want records, look for Wilt.
If you want impact, look for Steph.
If you want dominance in a position, look for Shaq.
If you want perimeter defense, find Gary Payton.
If you want athletics, find Kemp, or Giannis.
If you want greatness, look for Bird or Magic.
If you want exquisite dunks, look for Carter, Dr. J, or Wilkins.
If you want a good Trash Talker, look for Garnett.
If you want influence, look for Iverson.
If you want remarkable scoring skills, look for Durant.
If you want competitiveness, look for Kobe.
If you want impact at Clutch moment, look for Kobe again.

“Now, if you want all of the above in a single player, then look for Michael Jordan.”

Michael Jordan dominated the NBA in scoring for years, putting up incredible stats and winning the scoring title on 10 occasions. He also won six championships, two three-peats, hit massive shots, and played incredible defense. MJ was the complete package, and our writer, Eddie Bitar, listed 10 reasons that make him the GOAT.

This List And Its Logic For Calling Michael Jordan The GOAT Does Have Some Flaws

While the way it is framed makes a compelling point, and these are Michael Jordan was an all-rounder, this list isn’t a definitive answer. For example, Kobe Bryant was the man for clutch ability and competitiveness, but that’s not all he did. He was also a scorer, an elite defender, and an athlete, among other things. So to suggest that only Michael Jordan was elite at all of these things is a bit ingenuous.

This is not to say that Michael Jordan isn’t the GOAT, his career comparison with LeBron James shows how great his case is. But there is a lot more nuance that, at times, gets lost during this debate. At the end of the day, no basketball fan would claim that it is unreasonable to claim that MJ is the greatest to ever do it.
