Center Nikola Jokic has shown why he is the best big man in the league these playoffs, and he has been stellar in the Western Conference Finals. The Denver Nuggets are currently up 3-0 against the Los Angeles Lakers, and look likely to make the NBA Finals.

Former All-Star Isaiah Thomas has recently claimed that if Nikola Jokic and the Denver Nuggets win the championship, then the game of basketball “will change” noting that teams will need a legitimately good big man to compete against the Nuggets.

“If Denver wins the Finals the game will change again. Gotta get you a big man to have a chance. Copy cat league.”

There is no doubt that teams will need big men who can stop Nikola Jokic on the interior, and Isaiah Thomas makes a good point. Still, that doesn’t necessarily mean that superstars at other positions won’t be able to lead their teams to championships, as we just saw Stephen Curry win the 2022 championship last year.

In the playoffs, Nikola Jokic is averaging 29.9 PPG, 13.2 RPG, and 10.1 APG for the Denver Nuggets. He is definitely on another level right now, and we’ll see iff he can win the championship this year.

Nikola Jokic Doesn’t Mind The Lack Of Media Attention For The Nuggets

There is no doubt that a lot of media members did not give any attention to the Denver Nuggets this year, even though they were the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference. However, Nikola Jokic doesn’t mind it, noting that he actually enjoys the lack of attention.

“It’s nothing new for us. To be honest, I like it. We don’t care. Whatever. Even in the bubble when we beat Utah, it was they blew the lead. When we beat the Clippers, it was they blew the lead. Nobody talked about how we won those games. It’s normal for us. I don’t pay attention [to all of that].”

Media attention doesn’t necessarily indicate how good a team is: we have seen a lot of small market teams get no attention in the past, but end up winning championships. Perhaps that will be the case for the Denver Nuggets as well, and we’ll see what happens in the future.
