Grizzlies star Ja Morant sits in hot water after a string of recent scandals exposed his track record of reckless and immature behavior. In the most recent incident, Ja was seen waving his gun around on Instagram Live and it finally forced the Grizzlies’ hand.

Hours after they announced a 2-game suspension for their franchise star, Morant published this statement taking full accountability for the situation.

“I take full responsibility for my actions last night. I’m sorry to my family, teammates, coaches, fans, partners, the city of Memphis and the entire Grizzlies organization for letting you down. I’m going to take some time away to get help and work on better methods of dealing with stress and my overall well-being.”

While it’s not the apology many fans wanted to here, it’s a good start for Ja and his camp, who are likely to be playing damage control for the next few months or more.

Amid increasingly concerning and risky behavior from Morant, he’s losing a lot of credibility among the fans and his actions could send him down a trajectory nobody saw coming when he carried the Grizzlies to the Western Conference Semi-Finals last year.

What’s Next For Ja Morant?

Morant has really been acting up in Memphis this season and it put a serious stain on how people think of him as a leader. But after his apology, and some time away from the team (at least two games), there is hope that the young star will realize the error of his ways and work on avoiding such a situation in the future.

On the court, we all know what No. 12 is capable of. This season alone, he’s averaging 27.1 points, 8.2 assists, and 6 rebounds per game on 46% shooting. Unfortunately, the Grizzlies haven’t looked nearly as good lately.

After their scorching hot win streak in January, the Grizzlies have been pretty mediocre and have compiled some concerning losses along the way. Now, with Morant out for at least the next two games, there’s a real possibility that Memphis slips to third in the standings.

It will be up to Ja to come back ready to lead and it will be interesting to see if he and his team can leave this setback behind them.
