Ja Morant has served an 8-game suspension from the NBA including the games he missed while being away from the team. His recent gun controversy has been the topic of a lot of discussion around the league.

While many have criticized Ja Morant for his actions in recent weeks and months, others have questioned the severity of his punishment. The NBA investigation did conclude he didn’t have the gun on the plane or in a facility. An anonymous NBA agent has told Heavy the reason behind it, though

“They suspended him for being bad for business,” one prominent player agent told Heavy Sports. “I’m sure the people in the league office are concerned for Ja as a person, too, but they have to prioritize the business. His family, the team, and the other people around him have to be there to support the guy, but everybody has to know where the league is on this.”

This has been made clear by Ja Morant losing out on some sponsorships after his latest scandal. The reality of the league is that it runs on the money poured in thanks to advertising and other interests. So while the argument might be made that Ja was perhaps treated a little harshly, it is a stern reminder to all players about what is expected of them.

Ja Morant Got Advice On How He Can Be One Of The Players That Builds A Fortune

Ja Morant could make upwards of $500 million in NBA salary alone if he continues to stay out of trouble and focus on his game. He has the talent to be one of the faces of the league and potentially become a billionaire later in life. The agent explained further which players ended up achieving that.

“Companies want to be associated with the NBA, and you can see that in how much the value of these franchises has gone up,” he said. “The guys who really make bank are the ones who understand how everything’s tied together.

“You’re definitely still your own man, but you represent your family, your team, and the league, too. And you have to be careful out there.”

Ja Morant is now clear to return for the Memphis Grizzlies although there is no set date on his return just yet. If he can have a good stretch to end the season and take the Memphis Grizzlies to a Top 2 seed spot in the West, this could all be behind him soon.
