Even though James Harden is no longer the MVP-caliber player that he once was, there’s no doubt that he is still an effective guard that can help a team with his playmaking and complementary scoring.

This summer, James Harden will be a free agent, and there is a chance that he will end up leaving the Philadelphia 76ers if there are better deals out there. He has already been linked with the Houston Rockets. Recently, NBA Insider Brian Windhorst revealed that Harden could end up getting a four-year deal worth more than $200 million.

Teams clearly still value James Harden’s ability, and it’ll be interesting to see where he goes. The financial aspect is likely important for him as well, as Harden likely wants to secure one last payday.

In the playoffs, James Harden averaged 20.3 PPG, 6.2 RPG, and 8.3 APG for the Philadelphia 76ers. He still has a lot left in the tank, and perhaps we’ll see another elite year from him next season.

James Harden Reportedly Played A Key Role In Doc Rivers’ Firing

Even though he may end up leaving the Philadelphia 76ers in free agency, it is quite possible that James Harden will still stay. In fact, it seems as though he had some influence in their decision to fire Doc Rivers

“Sixers president Daryl Morey shouldered responsibility for the decision to remove Rivers during a news conference Wednesday. Several members of Rivers’ staff, sources said, have pointed to All-Star point guard James Harden — whom league personnel are expecting to decline his player option in search of a long-term contract — as a driving force behind Rivers’ departure.”

There’s no reason for James Harden to influence a coach’s firing if he has no intention of at least considering re-signing with the franchise. Obviously, he could still choose to go elsewhere, but the Philadelphia 76ers offer him the best chance of winning a championship at this moment.

With that being said, winning isn’t the only consideration for players when making free agency decisions. Other factors matter as well, and we’ve seen players leave established contenders for new challenges, such as when Kevin Durant left the Golden State Warriors. James Harden’s free agency will be interesting in that regard, and we’ll see what he decides to do.
