• James Harden is enjoying his time in China after calling Daryl Morey a liar at an Adidas event

• Harden was seen doing TikTok dances as part of his media commitments

• The disgruntled 76ers’ star requested a trade in the first week of July after accepting a $36 million player option

Less than 24 hours after calling Daryl Morey a liar and vowing never to play for him again, James Harden seems to be carrying on with his Adidas trip to China.

Harden is not hiding in fear of public opinion but instead continuing with his media commitments, first driving a moped on the streets and then participating in a TikTok dance with a Chinese influencer, much to the amusement of fans.

The situation between Harden and Morey has gotten incredibly complicated. What was once one of the strongest player-GM relationships in the league has turned into one of the worst due to Harden feeling like contract promises are not being kept.

This hasn’t phased Morey just yet, so we’ll have to wait and see if he’ll move off his high asking price for Harden to avoid acrimony in the locker room when training camp starts.

Is James Harden In The Wrong?

Everyone knows Harden has a pretty bad track record of asking out of franchises when the going gets tough, staring at possibly his fourth team in three years. Even if you believe he quit on the Rockets or Nets, he has a pretty fair grievance here. He averaged 21.0 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 10.7 assists last season and led the league in assists.

Many were confused when Harden took a pay cut last summer for a short-term deal instead of a long-term extension, but it seems the former MVP was expecting a big contract this summer to make it right. An alleged handshake agreement not being kept has to hurt, as Harden is trying to do what Kyrie Irving did to secure his next contract by asking out of a team that will not pay him.

Harden has made many mistakes in this situation, including accepting his player option when he knew he couldn’t trust Morey to trade him away. He can take the risk in free agency, but it’s abundantly clear to Harden that he won’t have a robust market after failing to generate interest this summer.
