The 2023 Playoffs have been incredible for fans to watch, with upsets and shocks coming from almost every corner. The first round was full of them as well, with the Lakers upsetting the Grizzlies on their way to the Western Conference Finals.

Jaren Jackson Jr. appeared on Paul George’s podcast and reflected on the series. In a discussion over whether LeBron James is old, JJJ openly said that LeBron is the greatest player to play.

“He is old and he kicked our ass. He’s thinking about retiring, he’s been playing since ’03. We gotta spin the block – but I hope we get a chance ’cause I don’t know how many more years he wants to do it. He’s been doing it. I know this, I was a LeBron fan back then and saw the whole process. He wants his ring. He’s the greatest player to play.”

Jackson also reflected on Dillon Brooks and his instigator tactics during the series and gave an honest assessment of how that affected the team. He will be representing Team USA this offseason and playing in the 2023 FIBA World Cup.

The GOAT Conversation Keeps Evolving

For all the people in the camp that believe LeBron is the GOAT, there are people in Michael Jordan‘s camp that believe the same about him. LeBron might have taken a lot of people arguing for Kareem Abdul-Jabbar away, but the Jordan camp is still big and thriving.

At this point, it seems James will never equal MJ’s six NBA championships. If he decides to team up with Kyrie Irving and Luka Doncic in Dallas, he may have a renewed shot at winning the title but as a player with far less impact than he has had in previous title runs or MJ did in any. The title argument is gone, but James’s longevity is reshaping how NBA legacies are evaluated.

JJJ may have James as his GOAT already but the conversation is still far from over.
