β€’ Pop musician Jason Derulo shared a story where he drank with Kobe Bryant in China

β€’ Derulo says Kobe kept pushing him to drink more, prompting Derulo to throw up on his way back home

β€’ Kobe told Derulo that he used to out-drink Shaquille O’Neal during their days as teammates

The stories that people share about Kobe Bryant are often very heartwarming. Fans, players, coaches, media members, and everyone else associated with the NBA wishes that Bryant was still with us given the hole he left in everybody’s hearts.

Stories about Bryant are the only way many fans can fill that hole. Pop musician Jason Derulo had an incredible story about Kobe to share. This didn’t include Mamba Mentality but was a fun retelling of the time Derulo got drunk with Kobe in China.

“The drunkest I have ever been was with Kobe Bryant. That’s one of the greatest highlights of my life. We’re sitting there, chopping it up, having dinner. After every drink he takes, he hits my glass aggressively, like pow. My glass shakes and I’m just like bow! (imitates drinking) We’re both Virgos and very competitive, this was my night to show Kobe how to do it. I’m the rockstar here.”

Derulo was shocked to find out Kobe used to out-drink Shaquille O’Neal when the pair were teammates.

“You play basketball, but I’m the rockstar, this is what I’m telling him. He’s like, ‘I put Shaq to shame!’. In my mind, I’m like, ‘Damn, Shaq is a big guy. You drank Shaq into the table? That’s pretty serious.’ I’m hitting his glass back, so it keeps going and going. After like 16 shots in, the rest of the night became a blur. All I remember is riding home and having to stop the vehicle five times on the way back to the hotel because I had to throw up on the side of the road.”

Bryant was known to be excessively committed to the game during his playing days. He wasn’t known as a heavy drinker and used to try and skip parties, but it’s clear Kobe could unwind when he wanted to.

We don’t know if this drinking story comes after Kobe’s retirement, but that would make sense, given Kobe wasn’t striving to compete for championships at the time.

Kobe Bryant Loved The Game

Kobe did everything in his power to never cheat the game of basketball. NBA players have incredibly social lifestyles as they are also multi-millionaire celebrities. Resisting those temptations to work on your game is hard, but Kobe found a way. He once made sure to party with his teammates till 5 A.M. just so he could criticize them for not showing up to practice on time in the morning, such was his dedication to the game.

Bryant averaged 25.0 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 4.7 assists over his career and won five championships as a result. He has two Finals MVPs to his name, one regular-season MVP, 18 All-Star appearances, 15 All-NBA appearances, and 12 All-Defense appearances.
