Jayson Tatum recently made headlines for being named as part of the All-NBA First Team.

Following his selection, Tatum is now eligible to sign a 5-year supermax contract worth $318 million in July 2024. Upon hearing this, NBA analyst Colin Cowherd thinks the Celtics should offer him the deal because his personality is much for like Andrew Wiggins than Michael Jordan or Kobe Bryant.

“Let me ask Celtics fans, you and I know that Jayson Tatum’s personality has been formed,” Cowherd said. “He’s much more Wiggins than Kobe or MJ. He’s not hyper-aggressive. … Kobe, MJ, LeBron, and Bird – aggressive. Jayson Tatum is more Wiggins. Doesn’t grab the game, that’s his personality.”

On the other hand, Cowherd believes Brown’s personality is similar to Kobe Bryant and Michael Jordan. Considering the Celtics would need to pay $613 million to retain both Tatum and Brown, it’s much easier for them to select the former rather than the latter.

Jayson Tatum Helped The Celtics Avoid Elimination In Game 6 vs. The 76ers

Jayson Tatum is undoubtedly one of the best players on the planet. But there are times when he struggles to get going. A perfect example of it was when Tatum had just 3 points over the first three quarters in Game 6.

Tatum would have been torched by NBA fans if he delivered such a stinker in the most crucial game of the season so far. But Tatum redeemed himself by dropping 16 points in the fourth quarter. The 25-year-old hailed himself as one of the best players in the NBA after that insane performance.

“Humbly, I’m one of the best basketball players in the world. Go through struggles, go through slumps. Thankfully I got some great teammates to hold it down, Brogdon, JB, Smart, Al… They all trusted me… All that matters was we won this game, give ourselves another chance come back home for Game 7.”

The job’s not done for Tatum and the Celtics. They still have a Game 7 to play in the series.

Tatum will need to be much better in the series-decider matchup. Can Tatum lead the Celtics to a win at TD Garden? We will find out soon.
