Jimmy Butler is currently one of the best players in the NBA. He carried the eighth-seeded Miami Heat to the 2023 NBA Finals and has a chance to win the first ring of his career.

Butler’s rise in the league is nothing short of amazing. But there was a time when Jimmy was double-minded about his basketball career. Butler’s Marquette teammate Joe Fulce revealed in a 2020 interview with The Athletic that he wanted to become a doctor.

“When we first went to Marquette and we were talking about this scholarship and going to school and all this other s**t, he didn’t necessarily want to play ball. That m*****f****r was thinking about trying to be a doctor.”

Now, that’s a surprising revelation about one of the biggest stars in the NBA right now. Speaking of Jimmy’s time in college, he averaged 12.0 PPG, 5.5 RPG, and 1.7 APG in 106 games.

It’s no surprise that Butler was the 30th overall pick in the 2011 NBA Draft. But today, he is just three wins away from becoming a champion.

Is Jimmy Butler A Top 10 Player In The NBA Right Now?

Jimmy Butler joined the Miami Heat in 2019. At the time, he was viewed as a locker room cancer. But in just four seasons, Butler has managed to prove his haters wrong.

He has led the Heat to two NBA Finals and an Eastern Conference Finals appearance during his stint with the organization. Following his brilliant 2023 NBA playoff run, a scout believes Jimmy has earned a spot on the list of the top 10 players in the league right now.

“Before this run, I would have said he’s a top 20 player in the league,” the scout said. “He’s got to be top 10. His competitiveness is top three, the will to win is All NBA quality. And he does it when it counts. A little surprised where he has gotten them. His record speaks for itself.”

Butler is averaging a solid 27.3 PPG, 6.8 RPG, and 5.9 APG in the postseason so far. Sure, he has cooled down a bit since Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Finals, but it’s most likely due to the ankle injury he suffered in the second round.

The 33-year-old has refused to use the ankle injury as an excuse for himself. But can he carry the Miami Heat to the NBA Championship without being completely fit? We will find out over the next few weeks.
