Joel Embiid is one of the best scorers in the modern era of the NBA and can win a second consecutive scoring title this season, regardless of where he finishes in MVP voting.
Embiid had revealed to The Player’s Tribune years ago that he learned to shoot the ball on YouTube after using a very specific and hilarious keyword to search.
“So I’m chilling one night, and I go on YouTube, and I think I’m about to figure this shooting thing out. I go to the search box like ‘HOW TO SHOOT 3 POINTERS,’ Nah. ‘HOW TO SHOOT GOOD FORM,’ Nah. Then the light bulb went off, man. I typed in the magic words: ‘WHITE PEOPLE SHOOTING 3 POINTERS.’ Listen, I know it’s a stereotype, but have you ever seen a normal, 30-year-old white guy shoot a three-pointer? That elbow is tucked, man. The knees are bent. The follow-through is perfect. Always. You know how in America, there’s always an older guy wearing like EVERLAST sweat-shorts at the court? That guy is always a problem. His J is always wet. I seriously got to the league by watching YouTube and living in the gym. There’s no other way to explain it.”

Joel Embiid is a below-average shooter, making 32.8% of his three-pointers on three attempts a game. His outside shooting gives the 76ers another option on the perimeter but is never going to be a weapon they seek out. Embiid is still a more rounded shooter than a historic big man, so his having that element to his game is a positive.
Joel Embiid Looking To Break The Glass Ceiling
The Philadelphia 76ers are having a good year, but there are still ways for them to make this one of the greatest seasons in the team’s history. Joel Embiid is likely going to win his second scoring title this season and is now leading the MVP race after his 52-point performance against the Boston Celtics. With those individual awards almost locked up, now their success will hinge on their playoff run.
This is arguably the best 76ers roster since the 2018-19 season that the team has had in their modern window of contention. While they are a step behind the Celtics and Milwaukee Bucks in the standings, they will be taking the fight to them. If Embiid can cap his season off with the Finals MVP, we might have seen one of the most dominant seasons in NBA history.
