  • Embiid could be traded by the Sixers in favor of a rebuild
  • Multiple teams are ‘circling’ in wait for potential sweepstakes

In the city of Philadelphia, Daryl Morey and the 76ers are attempting to avert disaster amid their ugly breakup with James Harden. But with Harden all but gone, Embiid’s future in Philly now hangs in the balance and nobody is certain where he might end up by the end of his current contract.

Regardless, several teams are already preparing to make a run for Joel — with the Heat and 76ers at the top of the list. “Everyone’s circling, waiting,” a source told Heavy Sports. “The Knicks and Miami are keeping an eye on everything going on.”

Embiid, the reigning NBA MVP, averaged 33.1 points per game last season to go along with 10.2 rebounds and 4.2 assists. He carried Philly all season long and displayed impressive consistency on both ends of the floor.

While Joel was unable to win big when it mattered the most, he’s among the top five players in the game and one of the few top-level stars who brings it on both ends of the floor. Unsurprisingly, Embiid has been highly coveted across the league now but perhaps no team has been connected to him more than the Knicks.

In New York, Embiid could be the missing piece that finally makes them a true contender. Despite last season’s inspiring run to the Conference Semis, the Knicks don’t have the go-to superstar every title team needs to win and it was their downfall in the end. Together, with Embiid, Jalen Brunson, and Julius Randle leading the show, the Knicks could easily become favorites in the East.

Alternatively, as the Heat continue to look for a way to land Damian Lillard, it could become likely that they consider making a run at Embiid instead, who could win big with Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo. As arguably, the best trio in basketball, the group could dominate the NBA with sheer talent and Miami’s infamous ‘Heat culture’ making everyone better.

It’s hard to say which team needs Embiid more, but there’s no question that he’s the type of player who changes the balance of power in the NBA and many teams will be calling if Daryl Morey ever decides to make him available.

Will Embiid Really Leave The Sixers?

At this point, the jury is still out on Embid’s future in Philly. We know that the situation is less than ideal with the Sixers essentially having lost a star for nothing, but Embiid is good enough to have the 76ers relevant in the East with or without Harden.

But if the team doesn’t find some help for him soon, and prove to him that they have what it takes to win it all, nobody should be surprised if he asks for a change of scenery. In fact, some would argue that we should expect it given the likely trajectory of the Sixers franchise.
